Accreditedtest methods.

Geo-Tech’s laboratory is accredited by the Construction Materials Engineering Council and the Florida Department of Transportation, and holds AASHTO R18 accreditation for soil, aggregate, concrete and hot mix asphalt. These are the test methods that accreditation covers, so you know exactly which standards stand behind your results.

Aggregate

StandardTest methodWhat it measures
ASTM C1077Laboratory Evaluation CriteriaSets the minimum personnel and equipment requirements for agencies that test concrete and concrete aggregates.
ASTM C117 / AASHTO T11Materials Finer than 75-µm (No. 200) SieveMeasures the percentage of fine material, such as silt and clay, washed from an aggregate sample through a No. 200 sieve.
ASTM C127 / AASHTO T85Specific Gravity and Absorption of Coarse AggregateDetermines the relative density and water absorption of coarse aggregate.
ASTM C128 / AASHTO T84Specific Gravity and Absorption of Fine AggregateDetermines the relative density and water absorption of sand-sized fine aggregate.
ASTM C131 / AASHTO T96Los Angeles (L.A.) AbrasionEvaluates how well coarse aggregate resists degradation and impact in a rotating drum with steel charges.
ASTM C136 / AASHTO T27Sieve Analysis and GradationDetermines the particle size distribution of coarse and fine aggregate through a set of graded sieves.
ASTM C566 / AASHTO T255Total Evaporable Moisture Content by DryingMeasures the total moisture in an aggregate sample by oven or hot plate drying.
ASTM C702 / AASHTO R76Reducing Samples to Testing SizeSplits and quarters bulk aggregate down to a small sample that still represents the stockpile.
ASTM E329Construction Agency Inspection StandardsEstablishes the quality control, engineering supervision and evaluation requirements for materials testing laboratories.

Concrete

StandardTest methodWhat it measures
ASTM C1064 / AASHTO T309Temperature of Fresh ConcreteMeasures the temperature of freshly mixed concrete to confirm it falls within specified limits.
ASTM C1231Use of Unbonded CapsCovers the elastomeric pads and metal retaining rings used when testing hardened concrete cylinders for strength.
ASTM C138 / AASHTO T121Density, Yield and Air Content (Gravimetric)Calculates the unit weight, batch yield and gravimetric air content of fresh concrete.
ASTM C143 / AASHTO T119SlumpAssesses the consistency and workability of fresh concrete by measuring how far it slumps.
ASTM C172 / AASHTO R60Sampling Freshly Mixed ConcreteStandardizes how representative samples of fresh concrete are taken from mixers and trucks.
ASTM C231 / AASHTO T152Air Content by Pressure MethodDetermines the entrained and entrapped air in fresh concrete with a pressure meter.
ASTM C31 / AASHTO R100Making and Curing Specimens in the FieldStandardizes how strength test cylinders are cast, rodded, finished and stored on site.
ASTM C39 / AASHTO T22Compressive Strength of CylindersMeasures the maximum axial load a hardened concrete cylinder carries before it fails.
ASTM C511 / AASHTO M201Moist Cabinets, Rooms and Storage TanksSets the humidity and water temperature needed to cure concrete test specimens properly.

Hot Mix Asphalt

StandardTest methodWhat it measures
ASTM D2726 / AASHTO T166Bulk Specific Gravity of Compacted AsphaltDetermines the bulk specific gravity and density of compacted asphalt cores and laboratory specimens.
ASTM D3666Asphalt Testing Agency CriteriaDefines the minimum standards for inspector qualifications and equipment in an asphalt testing laboratory.
ASTM D5444 / AASHTO T30Gradation of Extracted AggregateEvaluates the particle size distribution of aggregate recovered from an asphalt mix.
ASTM D6307 / AASHTO T308Asphalt Content by IgnitionBurns the binder out of a hot mix sample in a furnace and measures the binder content by weight loss.

Soil

StandardTest methodWhat it measures
ASTM D1140 / AASHTO T88Amount of Soil Finer than the No. 200 SieveDetermines the fraction of a dry soil sample made up of fine silt and clay particles by washing.
ASTM D1557 / AASHTO T180Modified Proctor CompactionEstablishes the maximum dry density and optimum moisture using a 10-lb rammer dropped 18 inches.
ASTM D2216 / AASHTO T265Water Content by MassCalculates the moisture in a soil sample by comparing its wet weight with its oven-dried weight.
ASTM D421 / AASHTO R58Dry Preparation of Soil SamplesCovers how raw soil samples are dried, broken down and split for testing.
ASTM D4318 / AASHTO T89 & T90Atterberg Limits (LL, PL, PI)Finds the liquid limit, plastic limit and plasticity index, the moisture points where soil behavior changes.
ASTM D6938 / AASHTO T310In-Place Nuclear DensityUses a nuclear gauge for immediate, non-destructive readings of in-place soil density and moisture.
ASTM D698 / AASHTO T99Standard Proctor CompactionEstablishes the moisture and density curve using a 5.5-lb rammer dropped 12 inches.
AASHTO T267Organic Content by Loss on IgnitionMeasures the organic content of soil by burning off organic material in a muffle furnace.
FM 1 T099 & T180Florida Standard and Modified ProctorThe Florida method for standard and modified compaction, suited to the state’s sandy soils.
FM 5 514Carbonates and Organics in LimerockIdentifies the carbonate content and organic impurities in limerock base material.
